On Monday 17 December 2018 EU member states met with the EU to discuss final concerns with and changes to the Ecodesign Lighting regulation. We have received the good news that a significant number of further exemptions for live performance have been agreed in the EU in regard to the revision of the ecodesign regulations (impacting on stage lighting).

These new exemptions include such issues as stand-by power, LED white lights, colour tuneable lights (especially the extension of the green wavelength) and more.  We await the final text being published in early January, but this is clearly good news as the year draws to an end.  Our thanks to a huge EU wide effort to influence this outcome, not least the work of the Pearle office in Brussels, and the UK side of the work from our office and Rob Halliday and Paule Constable who have led valiantly for the lighting designers.

We will continue to keep you updated as we hear more.

Best Wishes,
Cassie Chadderton, Head of UK Theatre
