A Community of Design: Paul Brown – Event at the V&A

A special event celebrating the extraordinary work of set and costume designer Paul Brown.

Paul Brown worked as the designer on productions around the world, from the Royal Court and Glyndebourne, to La Scala in Milan and the Lake stage at Bregenz Festival. Join designer and curator Kate Burnett along with Paul’s team of assistant designers and model makers to explore Paul’s work and examine the craft and vision involved in preparing scaled set models and costume and technical drawings for realisation on stages and screens worldwide. There will also be the opportunity to experience a VR version of Paul’s studio created by film maker Jonathan Hamilton.

Please do join Jonathan Hamilton and myself and bring colleagues, students and friends to this event at the V&A on 9th May, in the Hochhauser Auditorium 2 – 5pm.

Based on the presentation at OISTAT@50 at RWCMD last September, we will be looking at Paul’s fantastic skills and craftsmanship and at his studio as a place for young designers to develop their own skills. We have recorded interviews with Ros Coombs, Luis F. Carvalho, Sean Crowley, also Andy Cordy – Paul’s partner and Costume Supervisor Rachel Dickson.

Jonathan, graphic designer and film maker from NTU has been developing VR experiences of the studio and set models and we will have some artwork, model pieces and an opportunity to try the VR.

Tickets £7 available from the V&A website. See at:
