Award Outline

The delivery of the ABTT Gold Award assumes that candidates have achieved equivalent skills and knowledge as those delivered by the ABTT Bronze and Silver Awards. The Award is designed to support the candidate for a role in which they will have responsibility for the management of the working environment and the practices therein and covers the requirements and application of the following:

  • Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974
  • Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999
  • Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations, Revised 1998 (PUWER)
  • The Lifting Equipment and Lifting Operations Regulations 1998 (LOLER)
  • Work at Height Regulations 2005
  • Noise at Work Regulations
  • Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005
  • Licensing Act 2003
  • Legislative Reform (Entertainment Licensing) Act 2015
  • Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015
  • Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations
  • Technical Standards for Places of Entertainment
  • Codes of Practice’s etc.
  • Guidance Notes (Candidates will receive a copy of ABTT Theatre Essentials) etc.

Any legislative requirement or the application of any guidance or recommendation is considered in the specific context of the operation and management of a place of entertainment or of the production process required by live performance.

After successful completion of the course the candidate will be able to:

  • Identify legal requirements for the provision of health and safety in the work place
  • Identify sources of guidance for compliance with legal requirements
  • Develop procedures to ensure adequate management of health and safety in the work place
  • Undertake a comprehensive and detailed Risk Assessment
  • Develop and record detailed method statements to achieve the control measures identified by a risk assessment
  • Duration – Two full days and one evening session – part time course work

ASSIGNMENT
The candidate should complete a minimum of 2500 (no more than 3000 and to be completed within one month) word script based upon your chosen assignment. All course work must be in your own words. The objective of the assignment is an opportunity for you to demonstrate how the application of knowledge gained within the course work (Bronze, Silver & Gold) has helped you in the safe practice of technical theatre. The script should have a framework:

  • Title
  • Introduction,
  • Main body of presentation,
  • Conclusion and any recommendation.
  • Appendix (not included in the word count)
