The Backstage Professional Development Conference is in partnership with the Association of British Theatre Technicians.

The Conference will offer a day of short specialised practical sessions, talks, workshops, CV Doctors and Q&A’s

by our industry supporters and are designed to be of maximum value to backstage professionals.

Who is the conference for?

The conference is being created for professionals starting their careers working backstage in the

theatre and entertainment industry.  The talks and workshops will include content for all technical

departments including Stage and Production Managers, Lighting Technicians,

Automation Staff, Set Builders, Designers, Stage Crew, Scenic Artists, Prop Makers,

Sound Engineers, Wardrobe Staff and Makeup Artists.

What is the conference about?

The conference brings together industry professionals offering knowledge, advice and guidance

based on their careers working in the industry.  Genuine first-hand experience

and tips in the form of talks, workshops, and Q & A’s.  Our planned talks include

topics such as props and contracts, memberships, insurance, accounting, tax,

equipment hiring, tools, risk assessing, personal promotion, further training,

employment skills, working abroad, on tour and in the west end.

When is the conference happening?

The conference will take place at the Barbican Centre in the City of London

on the 18th March 2017. It will run from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. across four rooms,

each hosting four talks during the day. Lunch will be provided in the conservatory

as an opportunity for attendees to network further with each other, meet sponsors and talk with speakers.
