Online Lighting Courses ?

Hi all,
Am currently a sound engineer sadly put out of work due to the economic climate in this country,all the posts that seem to come available are asking for lighting exp, although i understand the basics of lighting and DMX and can normally get my head round most desks due to having quite a bit of digital experience on sound however unless i send myself back to uni for a couple of years to gain lighting degree which is time consuming i cant think of any other way.
does anyone know or has heard of any online lighting courses that would help me basically give me the knowledge i require, i pick things up very easily and have already got manuals for some of the avolites desks to scour thru
any suggestions gladly received

Online courses? The best thing is just read - there are loads of useful books, and I can send you a book list if you want, but the style of many of the books is beginner friendly, but depth limited, so if I were you, I'd go and see the kind of stuff in them in the local library. One other tip if the local library is poor, is that many colleges who do performing arts lighting also have their libraries available to the general public under 'community' schemes where funding came with the promise that non-students can use the facilities. This means that your local college may have more suitable books you can go and check out. Books rather than the net are probably a wise choice.
