JOB VACANCIES: SPAA SEEK LIGHTING TUTOR, CHIEF TECHNICIAN AND MASTER CARPENTER

Sharjah Performing Arts Academy (SPAA) is an independent Academy established by His Highness, Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohamed Al-Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah to address a growing demand in Sharjah and the region for formal quality education and professional training in the performing arts. SPAA is the only UK model conservatoire in the region, offering quality undergraduate and graduate degree programmes taught in English.  The new purpose built Academy comprising 2 theatres, Construction, prop making and paint workshops, CAD suite, Costume making and Wardrobe, TV studios, rehearsal studios, library, café, gym and much more is now ready for occupation and the first cohort of aspiring and talented students from Sharjah, the UAE, and the world are expected to start in September 2019.

Sharjah Performing Arts Academy are inviting applications for the following positions:

Lighting Tutor:

Location:  Sharjah, UAE
Salary:  Starting £42,000 plus attractive packages

This pivotal position is important for the successful establishment and development of the Academy. This role is an exciting opportunity to be part of the creation of a performing arts academy in a progressive and culturally supportive region of the Middle East.

Duties & Responsibilities:

The Lighting Tutor is a key member of teaching faculty. Reporting to the Program Leader Production, and working alongside teaching staff, the post holder will be responsible for developing and delivering training and assessment in lighting and electrics to a world leading standard.

Duties include but are not exclusive to:

  • Leadership and training of students on the production arts courses in professional theatre and event lighting and relevant technologies.
  • Contributing to the Academy’s commitment to the continuous raising of standards in the training of students for careers in the arts and entertainment industry and development of new technologies.
  • Maintaining the professional currency of the training in theatre lighting and new technologies through contact with the industry, for both staff development and to maintain a professional currency of the curriculum.

Chief Technician.

Location:  Sharjah, UAE
Salary:  £37k attractive packages

The Chief technician is a key member of Production department. Reporting to the Production Manager, and working alongside teaching and production staff, the post holder will be responsible for fulfilling and supporting the technical requirements of SPAA’s performance venues.

Duties include but are not exclusive to:

  • responsibility for fulfilling and supporting the technical requirements of SPAA’s performance venues.
  • leading the team of in-house technicians.
  • Supporting SPAA students on production and in their training.

Master Carpenter.

Salary:  Starting £42,000 plus attractive packages

  • Maintaining the professional currency of the training in scenic building and new technologies through contact with the industry, for both staff development and to maintain a professional currency of the curriculum.
