JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Senior Technician/Electrics (Chargehand) – Equivalent to LX. No.3
Reports to: Chief Electrician
Job overview: To assist in the safe and smooth running of the Electrical Department to the highest artistic and electricial standards by utilising resources and equipment.

LW Theatres are seeking to appoint a Senior Technician, Electrics (Chargehand) at the Gillian Lynne Theatre.

The successful candidate will have experience of moving light maintenance, operating and programming ETC consoles, as well as previous experience in a busy production theatre environment. Relevant electrical qualifications would be advantageous.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Relevant electrical qualifications
- Good understanding of programming and operating ETC consoles
- Understanding of lighting networking systems
- Understanding of theatre health & safety
- Experience of Portable Appliance Testing
- Experience of managing small teams

Main duties

Staff:
1. With others, to ensure that performance staff are fully utilised and completely conversant with their duties for the show.
2. Supervise performance staff in the absence of the Deputy and Chief Electrician.
Health & Safety:
1. Adhere to the Company’s Health & Safety Policy and to set a personal example in this respect.
2. If requested, to contribute towards the generation of Risk Assessments for new productions and to review/update risk assessments for resident productions.
3. To comply with the recommendations contained within the Risk Assessments for the show and the building.
4. To ensure that Health & Safety equipment and Personal Protection Equipment supplied is available and used correctly. Report any defects to the Chief Electrician.
5. With others, ensuring that all the electrical equipment is maintained to a high standard and the portable appliances are regularly tested, in accordance with recommended guidelines to ensure compliance with the Electricity at Work Regulations.

Production:
1. To work with the visiting Company and Stage Management to ensure good communications and the smooth running of the productions.
2. With others, to ensure the Production is maintained to the highest technical standards.
3. To be familiar with the cues of each of the Electricians in the running of the Production.
4. To operate the lighting desk and provide cover for performance electricians when required.

Building:
1. To assist in ensuring that the electrical installation is in good order and bring any deficiencies to the attention of the Chief Electrician.
2. To maintain good standards of “housekeeping” throughout the building.
3. To carry out work throughout the building as required by the Theatre Manager or Chief Electrician.
4. As required to “light up” and “black out” the building at the beginning and end of each day.
5. To diligently conduct lamp replacement rounds on the front of house, rear of house, box office, dressing rooms and externally as required.

General:
1. Taking responsibility for the department in the absence of the Chief and Deputy Electrician.
Working Hours
Will vary with Productions but will comply with the SOLT/BECTU Agreement. It is the nature of the business that the working of unsocial hours will be required.
