For some time, concern has been expressed by performers about the possible damage to their throats and voices caused by theatrical fog effects.
In the UK, we do not have any Occupational Exposure Limits for the constituents of Theatrical Fog (note Fog (fluid particles) not Smoke (solid particles)) which usually include Di and Trihydric Alcohols and sometimes glycols and mineral oils. In the US however, such OELs do exist. PLASA has conducted research in the United States and has kindly allowed us to replicate the tests that they and American Equity have carried out from time to time.
On Friday 21st March from 11:00 to 13:00, the ABTT will be conducting tests using industrial air sampling equipment which will show the levels of the aerosols at various fog concentrations typically found during performances. The tests will take place at The Playhouse Theatre courtesy of ATG, in Northumberland Avenue London WC2N 5DE (closest Tube, Embankment).
If you would like to witness these tests, please register your interest with the ABTT Ofiice by emailing here by Thursday 20th March 2014.BACK
