We’re very proud that our Bronze Award was developed and piloted in early 2004 at the Stockport Plaza Theatre by our Training Coordinator, Geoffrey Joyce, with help from Tony Bond and Howard Potts.  Geoff then developed our Silver Awards, successfully delivering these and Bronze to 34 candidates in 2005 at Warwick Arts Centre, Scottish Opera and Barnet Depot.  Since we started our courses we’ve had an average of 60 successful candidates annually, steadily increasing each year.

In 2007 we established a relationship with the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland who agreed to accredit our courses.  Since then we have continued to develop and expand our course range to respond to the theatre industry’s needs.  Most of the Theatre sector accept our courses as a good working standard for backstage roles.

We plan regular courses in our Summer School at Warwick Arts Centre, London, Glasgow and Manchester.  Our other courses include, Autocad, Pyrotechnic Awareness, Inspections for Lifting Gear, Electronics Fundamentals, Stage Structures, Portable Appliance Testing.

We have successfully delivered our Bronze in other countries including Malaysia & Hong Kong.  We have delivered sessions in Plaster Ceiling Inspections and have recently delivered our Bronze course to the new apprenticeships in England and Wales.

The course may be delivered anywhere within the UK and the ABTT would welcome interested theatres or organisations to act as a host venue .The only specialist requirement is the ability to fly scenery using hemp or counterweight. Please contact us if you are interested in having a Bronze Award Course at your venue.

Please check our Training and Careers page for more information.
