ABTT Members' Newsletter,
January 2020

Dear <<First Name>>,

This week, on January 11th 2021 the Association of British Theatre Technicians (ABTT) celebrated its 60th anniversary!

To mark the occasion we shall be celebrating with a year of online activities, and a resumption of in person events  when restrictions allow. We shall be looking into the rich depths of the ABTT Archive; sharing videos and interviews, running seminars, releasing new awards, and hosting events throughout the year.

Celebrating 60 years of the ABTT supporting those in the technical aspects of theatre is a significant milestone, and our longevity is a credit to our members, volunteers, supporters, officers and Trustees whose dedication and commitment to the Industry throughout the years have been key to our success.

Since 1961, we have been collecting, creating and sharing information with members, which we continue to do to this day. Through the pandemic we have adapted to ensure we can continue to provide technical advice, consultations, training, publications and vital resources while also providing members with networking opportunities through online events and  seminars. Our aim is to keep our Industry up to date, informed and safe by supporting best practice.

We would like to take a moment to thank all our trustees, members and supporters who give up their time freely to enable the ABTT to continue to support and promote technical excellence. The current times are challenging our industry, and people, like never before. We also wish to thank everyone who has already renewed their membership for 2021 and those who have given so generously with additional donations to help sustain the Association during these tough times.

Due to the current pandemic and the state of our Industry the ABTT has been trying to find a way to ensure as many people as possible can continue to receive benefits into the New Year. We have introduced a range of payment plans for memberships, so please do find more details about this below.

If you are unsure if you have yet renewed for 2021 please do get in touch with us on office@abtt.org.uk. Please do be aware that payments are taking longer than usual to be allocated to people's account due to a reduction in staff - so please check first if you believe you may have already paid.

This year, not being based in the office and with a conscious effort to become more sustainable the ABTT has not sent out physical renewal letters or membership cards. Instead we shall be emailing you in the next few weeks if you have not yet renewed and to provide you with flexible options on how you can best retain your membership and your benefits during these tough times.

Kind regards,
The ABTT Team

Add Gift Aid to your Membership!

Have you added Gift Aid to your membership?
Donating through Gift Aid means that, as a charity, the ABTT can claim an extra 25p for every £1 you give.

It will not cost you any extra and all you need to do is give written consent!
As a registered charity, we are dependent on our membership subscriptions and donations as we do not receive any government subsidy, or regular financial help from local authorities or the Arts Council. If you are able, please pay your ABTT membership subscription for 2021 and help support the ABTT in surviving in these incredibly challenging times. We would be extraordinarily grateful.

Introducing the ABTT Digital Archive!

To celebrate our 60 years the ABTT have been looking back at the many projects it has undertaken and one in particular stood out.  Between 1994 and 2004 the ABTT Historical Commmittee, (then known as the Archaeological Committee) began making recordings of distinguished theatre practitioners to ensure that their contribuion to our industry was not forgotten.

In celebration of the ABTT's 60th Anniversary we wanted to share some of the amazing things members of our community have achieved over the years by releasing these audio recordings.

We will be releasing a new interview every two weeks on to our brand new ABTT Archive page. Celebrating the achievements of Sound Designers, Technical Directors, Stage Managers, Set Designers, Chief Electricians, Theatre Architects and more! These are not be be missed and you can listen to the the first interview here.
