The Code of Conduct - the second coming:
This session will be covering the Code of Conduct for Get-in’s, Fit-ups & Get-outs which was created following a serious accident during the unloading of stage flooring on the back of a wagon. Now almost exactly 12 years after the original launch we are finally ready to bring you the first revision – The Code of Conduct 2022!

Diversifying our workforce by influencing the talent pipeline backstage:

We need to diversify our backstage workforce and be more inclusive. So what should we be doing?

In this panel seminar you will hear from some people that have begun to implement positive change in this area. We will then open the discussion: how do we to achieve greater diversity earlier on in the recruitment process. What must happen in education and at entry levels to encourage a more diverse and inclusive entry of young people looking to join the backstage community.

The Danger of saying "YES!" - Industry issues post-COVID:

We have all heard or been a part of the various discussions on the new issues that our industry faces in this post-covid landscape. To meet the challenges of massive staff shortages in the live performance sector, many are asked to do too much, too often, and with a greater degree of responsibility.

How should our industry meet these challenges without damaging its people? Come and join this panel discussion with a chance to reflect on current industry issues and the ways we can look to be proactive in resolving them.

Focus on Freelancers:

During lockdown we learnt that a massive 70% of our workforce are freelance. There are a great number of challenges that come with being a freelancer: job security, training, provision of support for work related issues and well-being to name but a few.

In this session we will hear from the newly formed BECTU Freelancers’ Branch, and Freelancers Make Theatre Work. We will also see the newly drafted ABTT Guidance Note –Mental Health and Well-being - supporting freelancers in the workplace.

Seminars on 23rd June 2022:
Sustainability - Working with the Green Book:

We have heard lots about the creation of the Theatre Green Book encouraging us to consider sustainability in our industry. Now its time to hear from those that have started to apply green book practices to their work.

In this session the PMF will host as we hear from productions that have used the Green book in their production processes and how they got on. So join us to find out more!

Anything but COVID! - Guidance from the HSE:

The past couple of years have been hard on industry and those who work within it, as well as for the regulator and the role they played during this time. As re-opening continues this session will look at how, after the large amount of time and focus has been given to the control of COVID, we now must take care not to lose sight of the inherent and longstanding risks remaining and emerging risks.

This session will look at some of these hazards and also discuss what engaging with a regulator can look like. Join us to keep yourself up to date!

Mental Health and Well-being in the workplace:

In this session we will be reminded of the legal responsibilities we have to consider around the well-being and mental health of our staff in the workplace.

We will then spend some time presenting how we can practically start planning for this and exploring some examples of good practice. Come and join the discussion!

SMA Awards and Mentoring Event Launch:

This session will be hosted by the SMA where they will be announcing the first new Honorary Members of their Association for five years in addition to announcing the David Ayliff Award for Lifetime Achievement for 2022.

After their keynote address, they will also be sharing the news of the new SMA mentoring programme (based on the popular and successful buddy scheme) which launches this Autumn. There will be an opportunity to sign up to the scheme.

The sector is facing massive challenges; staff shortages, rapid elevation to senior roles, struggling staff retention. Training and education have never been more relevant.

Join us as we discuss the evolving training needs of our industry, what we currently have and what we need to meet our changing needs. Most importantly what role training and development should play in supporting workers to remain in our industry.
