Job description

As a Part-time UK Group Technical Operations Manager you will support the Group’s Operations Director and the Head of Technical & Production Management in the leadership and coordination of the group’s venue based technical operations to ensure that all shows and events are presented to highest possible technical and creative standards.

You will be UK based and work both from the London office and onsite at Trafalgar’s UK Theatre venues for a total of 25hpw.

You will work closely and alongside the P/T (remote) Group Technical Operations Manager (already in post) to offer full technical operations support across the Trafalgar group of UK Theatres. This is a fixed term role for 18 months. Annual Leave is 21 days (inclusive of bank holidays).

The role will champion technical presentation excellence ensuring that every aspect of the operations is managed in accordance with sector best practise.

In partnership with the Group Health & Safety Manager you will guide and support the venues’ senior teams to ensure that all shows and events adhere to current licensing, health & safety and other legislative requirements.

In partnership with the Group Facilities Manager & Group Asset & Property Manager, you will ensure that all buildings and assets remain safe and compliant within appropriate legislation and best practice; including but not limited, statutory testing / servicing, inspection & record keeping, Fire Risk Assessment, Ceiling Inspection etc.

As UK Group Technical Operations Manager PT FixT, you will be responsible for:

– Group level liaison with, and support for, visiting production companies, producers, promoters and event organisers in the context of tours and events taking place within the group’s venues.
-Attending weekly Operation team meetings where possible.
– Supporting group technical team recruitment where appropriate.
– Supporting the Remote Group Technical Operations Manager with technical apprenticeships where required.
– Supporting HR and Creative Learning colleagues with the training and retention of technical staff to include supporting with technical CPD, ABTT training and trade show representation.
– Scheduling in-person visits to venues.
-In person discussions relating to staffing, equipment & projects and on-going production work, inc. Summer Youth Projects and the yearly pantomime for example.
– Provide timely support to venues with regards to equipment & system breakdowns.
– Provide timely support to venues with regards to any staffing challenges.
– Providing fault finding guidance and operational support to the venue teams to ensure continuity of all show and event related activity.
– Supporting the Group H&S Manager with H&S venue compliance.
– Supporting the Group H&S Manager with group-wide H&S policies and procedures.
– Support in reviewing RAMS and SSOWs in collaboration with the venues & the Group H&S Manager.
– Attending H&S quarterly meetings.
– Contributing to and attending Buildings &Technical Managers quarterly meetings.
– Supporting both Group H&S and Facilities managers with matters arising in venues which require a Stage and Technical oversight.
– Supporting the Group Facilities Manager, Group Asset & Property Manager & venues with strategic planning for the venue’s futures-for equipment and systems.
– Supporting the P/T Remote Group Technical Operations Manager with technical capital projects and support with both H&S and Buildings/facilities projects where required.
– Issuing P/Os and liaising with contractors where necessary.
– Supporting venues with onsite and in person meeting for projects/meetings with contractors where required.
– In partnership with the Group H&S Manager and the venue teams, ensure that the Business Continuity plans are in place and effectively implemented.
– Championing a level of technical excellence for events and performances in venues.
– Regular remote liaison with the P/T Remote Grp Tech Ops manager.

DESIRABLE SKILLS

A minimum of 5 years in a technical environment within the theatre industry
Experience of scoping and delivering projects in varying environments
Multi-Skilled practical fault finding on buildings and theatrical systems.
Understanding of Intranet/Internet based systems.
A strong communicator with a ‘can-do’ attitude and positive, flexible approach to the job role, work colleagues and peers.
A keen solution driven problem solver.
A self-motivated, highly mobile, fast learner who is keen to be adaptable and will work hard to complete tasks to the highest standard.
