Job description
Working alongside Punchdrunk’s Lighting Designer and Associate, together they’ll advise, oversee and deliver Punchdrunk’s Sleep No More to a multistory building in the heart of Seoul. The Lighting Consultant will collaborate closely with the Korean team, taking the lead in advising on layout, system setups, delivery schedules and hands on knowledge to the local team on how best to install and deliver the show. They will need to be creative thinkers bringing custom solutions and advice to the requirement of working in a non-traditional theatrical environment.
They will provide expert guidance on the delivery of the technical setup, overseeing the installation of power systems, show control and ensuring all electrical components are considered whilst working across departments with the sound and production teams to assist in a smooth running setup. Working with the challenges of the environment they’ll work closely with the design and Korean team to advise on the best practice to deliver the show’s system.
In consultation with the Lighting Designer and Lighting Associate, the Lighting Consultant will lead discussions and provide recommendations on the installation and setup of fixtures, layout, power and data runs whilst on the ground. The role will work alongside the set and design team consulting on the installation and operation of the shows practical lighting ensuring they work hand in hand and merge into the shows creative world. They’ll have an understanding of theatrical rigging, being able to advise the Korean team on the technical installation whilst also offering Punchdrunk’s practices when it comes to in-world rigging and installation.
The Lighting Consultant will also contribute to detailed documentation of lighting systems, including power layouts, rigging plans, and equipment inventory. They’ll consult on the production through from pre-production, installation, rehearsals and tech to previews and opening night. They’ll forward plans and ensure each phase is running to schedule and meet the creative brief.
