Actors’ Trust Expands Support Services – Now Available to Backstage Workers
26 September 2025
The Actors’ Benevolent Fund has relaunched as the Actors’ Trust, with an expanded range of services now available to both performers and stage management professionals – including those working backstage.
This major transformation aims to support more industry workers than ever before, especially in light of growing financial and mental health pressures across the sector.
Previously focused on supporting those facing hardship due to illness, injury, or age, the charity now offers wider financial assistance for anyone unable to work due to circumstances beyond their control.
New services now available include:
-
Mental health support, including access to therapy and 24/7 crisis support via a new partnership with text service Shout
-
Wellbeing and preventative initiatives covering social, financial, career, and health concerns
-
Workshops with BAPAM (British Association for Performing Arts Medicine) on stress, anxiety, and burnout
-
Digital tools, such as an online benefits calculator, through an improved website
-
New helpline number for quicker and more accessible support
This evolution is part of the Trust’s ongoing Acting for Impact strategy, developed in response to industry feedback. Recent surveys revealed that while many in the performing arts community face significant financial and mental health challenges, awareness of the charity’s services remains low.
Actors’ Trust is committed to reaching more people across the industry — on stage and behind the scenes — ensuring help is available exactly when and where it’s needed.
