Talk: Exploring the Archive of Theatre Director John Barton

Find out more about the fascinating archive of a highly respected and much-loved theatre director, John Barton.

Join us on Wednesday 11 November for our free online monthly Research Conversation. Taking place on Zoom on the second Wednesday of every month, the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust’s Research Conversations provide you with the opportunity to listen to people who are engaged in research, some of whom are working on the SBT’s own Collections.

In 1960 John Barton was invited to join The Royal Shakespeare Company by his friend Peter Hall.

Barton was one of the greatest Shakespearians of his time and continues to be a presiding spirit of the world’s leading Shakespeare company. Following his death in January 2018 his substantial private archive (more than 100 boxes of material) was given to the Royal Shakespeare Company, who deposited it at The Shakespeare Centre.

With Gregory Doran, Artistic Director, The Royal Shakespeare Company.

The event begins with a thirty minute presentation and will be followed by an open discussion.

Book online for your free place.

All of the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust’s Research Conversations are free, but we encourage donations in order to support our work and keep Shakespeare’s story alive.
