The Profile Awards 2024

The Profile Awards have been created and are coordinated by Durham and Jennie Marenghi in association with the ABTT, the ALPD and the STLD; the Awards recognise lighting design excellence in Theatre and Television in the UK and will take place after the ABTT Theatre Show on the 6th June at the Alexandra Palace Theatre.

Alongside eight specific Theatre awards and six TV awards there will be a Student Virtual Lighting Design competition and the Richard Pilbrow Lifetime Recognition Award in the name of Richard Pilbrow by kind agreement with Richard’s family and sponsored by Theatre Projects.

The Theatre Awards are judged by UK theatre critics and are not open to nominations whereas the Television Awards are judged by broadcast professionals and can be nominated by anyone. The Awards trophies are Pat 23M fixtures on stands, a miniature LED version of the iconic Rank Strand Pa1ern 22 profile fixture modelled and produced in limited amounts by Hugh Chinnick.

The awards ceremony will be an informal cabaret style seating with at least half of those in attendance being professional Lighting Designers. There will be plenty of opportunity to network and catch up with friends and peers at the ABTT Theatre Show, open between 10am and 5pm on 6th June at Alexandra Palace, before heading to the Profile Awards in the Theatre.

There is a Student Virtual Lighting Design Award whereby Lighting Design students and programmers from UK colleges are invited to create a two-minute animation using WYSIWYG 2023 or LD Capture visualisation software to music of their choice in a 3D model of the Royal Albert Hall provided by Durham Marenghi and populated with an Ayrton fixture virtual rig.

The student entries will be judged by the professional Profile Awards T- and Theatre nominees and the Virtual competition  student nominees will receive an invitation to The Profile Awards event with the winner being announced live at the Awards at Alexandra Palace on the 6th of June, these awards are kindly sponsored by AC Entertainment Technologies.

The Profile Awards

In addition to the Profile Awards Student Competion the ALPD Awards for 2024 encourage lighting professionals to nominate mid-career professionals who work alongside them whom they consider to be exceptional and worthy of recognion.
