Steve was born in Bristol in 1946, where he was a member of Bristol Youth Theatre and made his first films at Bristol Grammar School, including Karst (directed by Roger Tucker), which won the BFI Young Film Makers’ prize in 1965. He studied Drama, English, Economics and Mathematics at the University of Bristol, and later worked as a Lecturer and Lighting Technician in the Drama Department. In the 1980s he moved into film and TV lighting, working for Wilson Film Lighting, Telefilms, Lee Lighting and as a freelancer. Credits include Threads, Edge of Darkness, The Monocled Mutineer, The Good Doctor Bodkin Adams, Floyd on France, My Family and Other Animals, Tumbledown, Across the Lake, The Firm, Far Flung Floyd, Floyd on Spain, Only Fools and Horses, Resnick, The Hawk, Floyd on Africa, Cider with Rosie, Timmy Time, and many series of Casualty.
