Job description
The Head of Scenic Art is a permanent position within the Leeds Playhouse Scenic Workshop. This role plays a pivotal part in the production department, where the Scenic Workshop is divided into three main teams: Construction, Scenic Art, and Props.
The primary purpose of the role is to lead the artistic and technical execution of scenic art within an environment that produces in-house theatre productions.
You will work closely with multiple production departments to ensure that all scenic elements meet high-quality creative and technical standards, aligning with Leeds Playhouse’s artistic vision and operational processes. Your responsibilities include managing day-to-day operations of the scenic paint shop and overseeing a dedicated team of freelance artists, casual staff, and trainees.
This position offers an opportunity to maintain and build on the rich tradition of scenic excellence at Leeds Playhouse while contributing to the overall cultural and creative life of the theatre.
This is a full time, permanent contract of 40 hours per week over 5 days. Evening and weekend work will be required. The Scenic Workshops are primarily operational Monday to Friday but there will be occasions when working on Saturdays is required as part of a standard week.
Pay for this role is £32,336 per year, plus UK Theatre/ BECTU commercial get-outs and overtime payments. A 12-week relocation payment is also available for those whose current base is over 40 miles away from Leeds Playhouse.
