Reports to: Executive Creative Producer, Chief Operating Officer and, Commercial Director
Works most closely with: Head of Commercial partnerships and events, Head of Creative Engagement and the Senior Producer.
Responsible for: Technical Manager, Senior technician, Technicians, freelance and sessional staff

Role Overview
As Interim Head of Production, you will lead the technical and production delivery of Brixton House’s performing arts programme, hires and events and creative activity across all spaces. Working closely with artists, visiting companies, and internal teams, you will ensure the highest quality production standards across all performances, events, and participation projects. You will also uphold the strategic planning and support the venue’s continued reputation for innovation, collaboration, and excellence in the arts.
Key Responsibilities
Production Planning & Delivery
• Lead and manage the production delivery of all Brixton House productions, hires and events to the highest artistic and technical standards. Reporting to relevant Executive.
• Plan and coordinate production schedules and resources across performance and studio spaces, touring, and off-site or site-specific work.
• Oversee and ensure timely production of risk assessments for all activities.
• Develop, monitor, and manage production budgets; ensure work is delivered on time and within budget.
• Provide production support and advice to directors, designers, visiting artists, and creative teams.
• Collaborate with the Executive Creative Producer and the Commercial Director, and co-producers to support the delivery of commissions and partnerships.
• Assign and manage technical support for visiting companies, ensuring a welcoming and professional environment.
• Act as Production Manager for in-house projects and events as needed.
Team & Department Management
• Manage the production team, including full-time, freelance, and sessional staff.
• Oversee staffing schedules, recruitment, contracting, and freelance assignments.
• Lead on team development, including training, skills building, and apprenticeships.
• Monitor departmental expenditure and ensure alignment with financial procedures.
• Support a culture of collaboration, inclusion, and ambition within the team and across the organisation.
• Ensure compliance with relevant union agreements and health and safety legislation.
• Uphold and promote company policies including Equal Opportunities, Safeguarding, and Access.
Health & Safety
• Champion Health & Safety across all production activity.
• Ensure risk assessments and safe working practices are maintained and reviewed regularly.
• Liaise with statutory bodies where necessary to maintain compliance.
Organisational Leadership
• Represent the production team in senior management discussions and decision-making where needed.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of sustainability, access, and inclusion initiatives.
• Act as an advocate for Brixton House within the industry, participating in external panels and networking opportunities.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with peer organisations, creative partners, and stakeholders.
• Develop and maintain venue infrastructure, i.e. Work with the Technical Manager to maintain and future-proof technical infrastructure, including AV and digital systems.
General
• Attend press nights, fundraising events, and other significant company activities.
• Support the delivery of the Creative Engagement programme requiring production input.
• Support and lead the delivery of all hires and commercial events – delegating to teams where necessary and working clearly and productively with the technical manager to ensure all technical aspects are delivered to the highest standard.
• Be available to work evenings and weekends as required.

Person Specification
Essential
• Proven experience in a senior production or technical role within theatre or performing arts.
• Experience with production management and scheduling software
• Strong leadership and team management skills with a track record of building effective, collaborative teams.
• Proven ability to manage complex production budgets and schedules.
• Deep understanding of technical theatre including lighting, sound, Projection and staging.
• Competency in CAD systems especially Vectorworks and AutoCad.
• Extensive knowledge and application of health and safety regulations in a production context.
• Experience of working closely with artists and creative teams to deliver ambitious projects.
• Skilled communicator with excellent organisational and problem-solving skills.
• A commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equitable practice in the arts.
Desirable
• Experience of delivering productions across varied contexts, including tours and site-specific work.
• Knowledge of accessible performance formats and inclusive production practices.
• Interest in working with emerging artists and supporting professional development.
• Understanding of wider arts sector policy and innovation.
• First Aid trained and/or holding a full UK driving licence.
• IOSH Managing Safely Qualification
Contract Type: Interim, 6 months fixed term (potential for extension)
Ideal start date July 2025 – Feb 2026
Hours: Full-time, with flexibility to work evenings and weekends
Location: On-site at Brixton House, one day hybrid working.
