Job Description
Salary: The post will be paid on the Sixth Form Colleges’ Support Staff Pay Spine at points 7 to 8 – pro rata to £25,951 to £26,343 per annum. Actual Salary £8,279.73 to £8,404.80 per annum.
Purpose of the post: The role of the post-holder is to act as technician for the Dance, Drama and Performing Arts departments. You will be required to manage the technical requirements for lessons and public performances following consultation with relevant staff members. You will also be responsible for all performance spaces, storage and equipment. The post-holder will be required to be flexible and adaptable in responding to the needs of the department, its staff and students.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
The post-holder will be required to undertake a wide range of duties in order to support the effective running of the department. Main tasks will include, but not be limited to:
- Maintenance of all electrical equipment, particularly sound and lighting
- Management of all aspects of Health and Safety within teaching and performance spaces
- To act as resident Stage Manager for all productions
- Maintenance of teaching spaces ensuring they are clear and ready for teaching, especially following their use for performance
- Monitoring of consumable theatre stock and order of cost effective supplies
- Designing all production elements in consultation with staff (lighting, sound, projection, set etc.)
- Rigging and focusing lanterns for performances, preparation of music and sound effects as required
- Attendance in lessons and rehearsals where technical support is required in order to be able to effectively operate in performance and for examinations
- Operating LX, sound and projection in performance and for all examinations
- Maintenance of all storage areas
- Set sourcing, construction and storage
- Prop and costume sourcing and storage
- Evening performances: be responsible for all Front of House duties, including powering off and leaving the performances spaces secure and safe for their next use
- Be responsible for AV equipment, recording performances, storing and managing these, and preparing thumb drives for exam purposes and moderation
