About the Role

The Senior Sound & Video Technician (BECTU Grade 3A) is a hands-on operational role within the NT Sound & Video department, working directly on productions and performances.

The role plays a key part in the production process, undertaking responsibilities such as sound programming and operation, radio microphone supervision and running, and technical support, delivering specialist technical services to a consistently high standard.

Working both independently and as part of the department team, the role also includes supervising and mentoring technicians, initiating and delivering projects within departmental operations, and supporting the development of others through informal training and the sharing of skills.

The successful candidates will have the following:  

  • Experience as a sound technician within a theatre or other live performance environment.
  • Demonstrable leadership experience, with the ability to listen, delegate and provide guidance to others.
  • Proven experience as a production sound engineer, sound operator, or in a comparable specialist role.
  • Practical knowledge of relevant Health & Safety standards, including (but not limited to) BS7909, BS7671, Noise at Work, LOLER, PUWER and risk assessment procedures.
  • Working knowledge of IP network systems and their practical deployment within the entertainment industry.
