About Us

Reading Arts & Theatres is looking for a skilled and motivated Electrical Technician to join our technical team, supporting an exciting and varied programme of performances, conferences and live events across our venues.

Working primarily at the Hexagon, you will also regularly support events at the South Street Arts Centre, Reading Museum, Town Hall & Concert Hall and our new Studio Theatre (currently being built). From touring productions and live music to conferences and community events, no two days will be the same.

Job Description

As Electrical Technician, you will play a key role in delivering the technical elements of our events programme, with particular responsibility for electrical presentation and management.

You will:
– Work on get-ins, get-outs and live performances in a range of technical capacities
– Interpret and implement lighting plans from visiting companies
– Rig, focus, plot and operate lighting desks (including intelligent lighting)
– Set up and operate digital sound desks for a variety of live events
– Install and operate AV equipment, including screens, projectors and IT integration
– Ensure all lighting, sound and AV equipment is maintained and used safely
– Liaise with visiting companies and hirers to confirm production requirements
– Supervise and brief casual technicians
– Deputise for the Chief Electrician and Technical Manager where required

You will also be responsible for implementing risk assessments, maintaining high health & safety standards, and ensuring all events are delivered safely and professionally.

About You

We are looking for someone who:
– Has at least one year’s recent experience in a similar technical theatre or live events role
– Has experience mixing live sound
– Can design, rig and operate both generic and intelligent lighting
– Is confident setting up and operating AV equipment in conference and theatrical environments
– Has experience with first-line maintenance of technical equipment
– Can communicate effectively with visiting companies and colleagues
– Is comfortable working at height and undertaking manual handling tasks
– Holds a full, clean driving licence
– Is IT literate and confident operating digital technical systems

You’ll need to be flexible, as the role requires evening, weekend and bank holiday working, along with some heavy manual work.
