Job Description
The Barbican is London’s Creative Catalyst for arts, curiosity and enterprise.
It is an international arts, conference and education centre that presents artistic experiences with collaborators across music, theatre, dance, visual arts, and cinema that variously entertain, enable, enrich and educate our many audiences. With the intention to be a 21st century international Art Centre that champions equity and opportunity, the Barbican explores new approaches to arts by sparking creative possibilities and transformation for artists, audiences, and communities. Barbican is a place to be and a place where everyone is welcome.
Barbican’s boundary-pushing Music programme cuts across all genres, including work by contemporary artists, experimental collaborations and visits from the world’s best orchestras and soloists. Alongside their resident, associate and international ensembles and other partners, they provide some of the finest musical experiences the capital has to offer, from Baroque operas to cutting-edge electronic music. At the heart of a multi-arts centre, they produce concerts which go beyond the standard live music experience, presenting music which hovers at the edges of classification.
Our Barbican Concert Hall is seeking an experienced and passionate individual to join the Music Department as a Technician with a specialism in sound. This will include experience of basic sound equipment maintenance, the ability to follow stage plans to determine microphone positions and patching, along with experience of Digico mixing consoles and networks in a professional setting. The post holder will be working alongside a team delivering high-level technical support to all music & commercial events in the Barbican Concert Hall, Foyers, and external venues. You will be comfortable working in a team environment, expressing a positive attitude, even under challenging circumstances.
This position requires a high level of experience and competence in sound, with a general understanding of other technical production disciplines, such as lighting, and AV equipment for a wide range of music, commercial and streamed events. Alternatively, if you have experience in sound and are eager to learn and would like to develop further additional skills in these other areas of technical support then we can provide this training for you.
This is an irregular shift-based role spread over 7 days that includes weekend and evening work.
