Lowry is a visual and performing arts venue situated at the heart of MediaCityUK in Salford, one of the world’s most exciting culture and media destinations.
We currently have an exciting opportunity for a highly capable, multi-skilled Theatre Technician to join the Technical Department, with a strong emphasis on stage operations, flys and the delivery of live performance. Working closely with the Head of Technical and the Technical Managers, this role is central to the safe, efficient and high-quality running of our busy producing and receiving venues.
This is a hands-on, stage-facing role involving all duties associated with the get in, fit up, rehearsal, performance running and get out of a wide range of productions and events across our three theatres, conference spaces and occasional outdoor performance areas. You will play a key part in delivering smooth, safe and professional stage operations, working closely with Visiting Companies and clients to support their technical requirements, particularly in relation to stage craft, flying, rigging and live show delivery, while also contributing across the wider needs of the department.
A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar position in a receiving or producing theatre is essential.
Stage / Flys: Strong practical experience of stage craft, counterweight flying, general rigging and the running of live performances is essential. You will be confident delivering Get Ins and Get Outs, supporting fit-ups, maintaining safe working practices on stage and contributing to the smooth running of performances in a fast-paced receiving and producing environment.
It is important to have a working understanding of LX and sound rigging and operation with a view to improve skills in these disciplines.
Knowledge of current Health and Safety legislation.
Good level of IT skills.
We are looking for a team player with excellent communication skills, a proven track record of delivering a friendly and professional service and a pro-active approach towards personal development.
Please note that this role is 40 hours per week (averaged over a 17 week reference period). You will be required to work on a flexible rota pattern, which includes working weekends, bank holidays and evenings where required.
The role has a number of staff benefits including:
- Complimentary and discounted theatre and live event tickets.
- Free car parking just a few minutes’ walk from the Lowry building.
- Paid day off for your birthday.
- Discounts at the bars, restaurant and gift shop located within the Lowry building.
- Access to Lowry’s Wellbeing Hub and to other health and wellbeing services, including counselling, physiotherapy and remote GP appointments.
- Group Life Assurance Scheme.
Please note that MediaCityUK is a well-connected destination with a variety of different transport options – bus, car, tram and bike.
