JONATHON CALDICOT: After studying Stage Management at Central School of Speech & Drama, I was lucky to gain my Equity Card as an ASM for the opening season of the New Lyric Theatre, Hammersmith – being paid £50 a week (in cash) – so, I remember how hard it was to survive living in London on low wages. After many West End shows and theatre tours, I became a Stage Manager at Chichester Festival Theatre and then for the RSC, Barbican. Since then, I have been Producer-in-Residence at a school in Sussex, where I created an Independent Drama Department. I then became Head of Drama, a House Master and was also on the Board of the Independent Schools Theatre Association – a charity that brought teenagers together to experience drama from around the globe. And twenty-nine years later, I have finally retired !
I firmly believe that no one should have a financial barrier when it comes to their professional development, so I am delighted to partner with TTG and the SMA on this new training initiative.
With rapid advancements in technology and increased demands on practitioners, I am pleased to support the next generation, with the launch of The Caldicot Stage Management Training Bursary.
