Trustee: Emma Wilson MBE

As well as being a Trustee Director for the ABTT, Emma sits on the ABTT Safety Committee, and is a member of SAGE (Safety Advisory Group for Entertainment) amongst other wider theatre industry engagements. She has particular interests in sustainability, health and safety, apprenticeships and opportunities for young people, and inclusion and diversity in the workplace.

Emma Wilson is Director of Technical, Production & Costume at the Royal Opera House, prior to that she held the same role at Sadler’s Wells for number of years. Her academic background is in environmental studies and she has a PhD in Cultural Theory and Environmental Politics, was involved in the first iteration of the Green Book, and now sits on the Green Book Steering Committee for Productions. Emma is a chapter editor for the forthcoming 2^nd edition of Theatre Buildings: a Design Guide, and is also part of the Technical Directors steering group for Opera Europa.

While we build a future in which our industry is respectful of a balanced life, of safety, and of good mental health, we will need to address technical advancement and changes to our working processes and practices. To this end I believe we need to stay flexible, open, and collaborative, and I believe the ABTT has a powerful role to play in fostering engagement and communication across the industry.
