Remembering John Offord: ABTT Honorary Member and Industry Luminary (1942–2026)

The Association of British Theatre Technicians (ABTT) is saddened to announce the passing of John Offord, an ABTT Honorary Member and a respected figure in the live entertainment industry. John passed away after a short illness, leaving behind a legacy that touched countless technicians, venues, and publications.

John was the publisher of Sightline and Technical Standards for Places of Entertainment, and he was a familiar presence at ABTT events over many years. He could often be found manning the ET Press stand or capturing the moments of the industry through his photography for Entertainment Technology magazine and its online platform, etnow.com.

John’s career spanned decades of transformation in theatre and live entertainment technology. Through his work, he provided an invaluable service to the community, ensuring that technical standards, news, and insights were accessible to professionals across the UK and beyond. His contributions helped shape the professional landscape for generations of theatre technicians and venue operators.

Beyond his professional achievements, John will be remembered for his warmth, generosity, and dedication to the ABTT community. His presence at events, whether sharing his expertise, supporting colleagues, or documenting the industry through photography, left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

The ABTT extends its deepest condolences to John’s family, friends, and colleagues. He will be dearly missed, and his contributions to theatre technology and the ABTT will be remembered with great respect and affection.
