The performing arts is a vital part of the creative ecosystem, as referenced in the UK Government’s Creative Industry Sector Plan1. Growth and sustainability in this sector depends on the health of the people who work in it. However, 75% of performing arts professionals will experience an injury or illness that will impact their ability to work or study.

And, unlike other sectors where rates of poor health are high, the performing arts has until now lacked foundational training that addresses the specific health needs of its workers.

StageFit gives easy to follow, essential knowledge grounded in BAPAM’s performing arts medicine, creative work and health expertise. This accessible training gives everyone in the performing arts an essential understanding of how to protect their own and others’ health and how their work impacts this – at an individual, group, organisational and industry-wide level.

To create a safer, healthier performing arts ecosystem, it is imperative for musicians, dancers, actors, managers, educators and backstage professionals to understand how creative sector work, environments and culture impact health. This is especially important for businesses and organisations who have a responsibility to protect artists, employees, students, freelancers and contractors.

StageFit covers four key areas that are known to be impacted by a career in the performing arts: hearing health, vocal health, mental health and musculoskeletal health.
