AMPLIFY Technical Placement

25 November 2019

As part of AMPLIFY, Tangle’s ongoing scheme to develop talent in off-stage roles for African, Caribbean theatre makers and those from diverse heritages, Tangle is offering a paid placement for a technical theatre maker at any career stage to train and develop their skills on our upcoming touring production, Ben Jonson’s VOLPONE.

Tangle (www.tangletheatre.co.uk) is offering a paid placement for a technical theatre maker at any career stage (UK resident, aged 18 and over) to train and develop their skills on our upcoming touring production, Ben Jonson’s VOLPONE, which rehearses in London, opens in Bath and tours nationally from 27 January – 18 April 2020. This is part of Tangle’s AMPLIFY offstage skills development scheme.

We encourage applicants from different backgrounds with different experiences, skills and stories to join us and influence, develop our working practice and be part of the process. In line with Tangle’s remit, we particularly welcome applications from BAME people.

Working with the production’s sound and lighting designers, the placement offers an opportunity to gain experience in any or all of these areas:

• Being a part of the overall research, preparation and production process
• Lighting a stage production predominately with practical lighting sources (as opposed to conventional stage lanterns).
• Scoping and devising recorded sound effects (mixing conventional effects with various forms of amplification)
• Enhancing live song and music with amplification (static mics etc)

There are options to engage pre-production, during rehearsals, and through the technical and touring period (13 January – 18 April 2020 with the technical period 20 – 26 February).

Remuneration

The successful applicant will receive a fee of £750 for the engagement with up to £250 offered in addition for travel and accommodation costs if needed and two complimentary tickets to the London press night in March 2020.

The recipient will devise their own programme of work (examples and recommendations are provided in the application pack). This self-selecting approach ensures the placement can fit around other commitments and that applicants can select areas of practice that interest them the most.

Dates

The placement takes place over a period designed by the recipient between 13 January and 18 April 2020 (see application pack for details). After this training there may be further possibilities to deliver activity with Tangle on future projects and touring shows. Closing date for applications: 18 December 2019. Interviews: 8 January 2020.
