ABTT WHAM Committee

Who we are:

ABTT WHAM is an Association of British Theatre Technicians’ community that aims to promote the interests of Wigs, Hair and Make-up (WHAM) professionals within the theatre industry and live events sector.

What we do:

ABTT WHAM seeks to draw on the knowledge and experience of our colleagues and peers, so as to champion topics that help define Wigs, Hair and Make-up as an independent and recognised field, and to encourage a better understanding of our work across our industry.

We collaborate closely with the CiTEA community of costume and wardrobe professionals, and do so with mutual support. Together we represent the ‘Embodiment Technologies’ and having defined ourselves as industry equals to the ‘Staging Technologies’, we can also be found at the annual ABTT Theatre Show running a stand, workshops and seminars.

Why we do it:

As we embark on our mission to celebrate the disciplines that make up Wigs, Hair and Make-up departments and its competent workers, we are working hard to lead on actions that will help benefit not just Wigs, Hair and Make-up expertise but the theatre and entertainment industry as a whole. The ABTT WHAM Design awards launched in 2024 and function as an annual recognition of excellence, talent and skills amongst us. In addition, we welcome suggestions of new projects for us to work on that are aligned to our vision, so please do get in touch.

Why you should join:

The Group is run by volunteers, managed by the WHAM Awards Executive Producer, who is one of the founding members. If you are a sponsor and are interested in supporting our work, we would love to hear from you.

Anyone is welcome to join the ABTT WHAM community – you simply need to let us know that you wish to be a part of us. It is important to know that you do not need to be an ABTT Member to be nominated or a nominee for our awards.
