Invitation to Participate – Research Interviews for Industry Textbook
16 July 2025
The University of Greenwich are currently developing a new industry-focused textbook titled Production and Technical Management for Theatre and Live Productions, commissioned by Routledge. The book is aimed at early-career professionals, Level 7 apprentices, and higher education learners — and it will foreground UK-based practices, challenges, and cultures of working backstage.
As part of this work, they are looking to interview 6 production managers and 6 technical managers across a range of roles and contexts.
These interviews will help them reflect the real working practices, decision-making processes, and personal trajectories of those working across the sector today. We’re especially interested in how people lead, support others, manage pressure, and develop their own ways of working — whether in theatre, live events, cabaret, dance, or beyond.

How Participants Will Be Selected
Potential participants will be asked to complete a short questionnaire above to help us ensure a diverse group of participants. From these responses, approximately 12 participants will be selected to take part in an online interview, approximately 60 minutes long and can be scheduled at a time that suits you.
The aim is to include a range of perspectives across career stages, types of theatre and live events, and participants of different genders, races, sexual orientations, and disability statuses. This helps us to represent the variety of experiences in the industry, including those that have historically been underrepresented.
Participation is voluntary, and you can remain anonymous if you prefer. The final publication will acknowledge the contribution of participants (with consent) and aims to reflect a representative cross-section of the sector.
