Job Description

Can you operate stage lighting within a theatre environment? Are you keen to develop your lighting skills and experience working across our 3 theatres in Stratford-upon-Avon? Do you want to work on show specific lighting installations, programming, or follow-spotting?

We’re seeking a Lighting Technician to support the Lighting Department in delivering high‑quality lighting and electrical services for RSC productions across our three Stratford‑upon‑Avon venues. The role also includes providing technical support for a variety of events and activities that take place throughout the wider RSC buildings.

Reporting to the Head of Lighting, key areas of responsibility include (please see the full job description and person specification for the comprehensive list):

  • Providing lighting related support for shows performed on any of the RSC stages.
  • Assisting with the smooth running of fit-ups, get-ins, rehearsals, performances, changeovers and get-outs on the Stratford stages.
  • Assisting with fault finding, repair and maintenance of all departmental equipment.
  • Maintenance of all RSC lighting equipment, annual servicing, fault finding, repair and testing.
  • Taking on roles as part of the show running Lighting team.

 

To be suitable for this role, it is essential that you have:

  • A good knowledge and understanding of Stage Lighting and relevant electrical and electronic systems e.g. Power distribution, DMX, Ethernet.
  • A comprehensive knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and procedures and their implications in the lighting and electrics environment.
  • An ability to operate and programme theatre lighting control systems – ETC Apex desks are used by the RSC.
  • A broad understanding of how LED lighting works.
  • An ability to work independently, or within a team, along with experience of running small teams on specific projects.
