Job Description

Marina Theatre, Lowestoft | £28,500 – 32,000 p.a. depending upon experience.

The Marina Theatre, Lowestoft, is looking for a skilled and motivated Technical Manager to join the team to support and develop our operation as the keystone cultural venue in the town.

The Marina is in the heart of Lowestoft on the east coast, close to the sea & the Broads, and has 647 seats across stalls and dress circle levels, making it one of the largest proscenium auditoria in the East. This is an exciting time to join the team with a recently completed £3.5M improvement to the front-of-house accommodation and accessibility.

The Marina offers a broad programme of live music, household-name comedy, family shows, drama and musicals as well as an acclaimed annual pantomime. We also present films & screenings. Alongside the theatre, the Trust runs an extensive outreach and participation programme which engages with the same number of people again as attend the theatre as audience members.

The Technical Manager is a key member of the Marina’s senior management team, responsible for managing and building a permanent and casual team of technicians. You’ll ensure we offer the highest standards of technical support to the many varied performances and events we present each year. Establishing great relationships with the touring companies visiting us is a key part of the role. You’ll also be part of the Operations Team that maintains the building to a high standard and establishes a positive safety culture throughout the staff team. This is a diverse and rewarding role which includes a good mixture of both planning and management as well as practical technical and production delivery.

Previous technical experience in a live entertainment context is essential, but this does not have to be a theatre, and we are keen to hear from candidates from a wide range of backgrounds.

Why we like working at the Marina Theatre – comments from the Senior Managers and HoDs:

The ‘family’ feel to the venue and the welcoming atmosphere – not just for staff but for our customers too. Working with great people who support each other, create a positive, friendly work environment and who are all knowledgeable and passionate about their individual departments – the democratic approach we have in tackling challenges and coming-up with solutions. The genuine understanding of a fair and reasonable balance between work and home life.

No two days are the same – I enjoy the variety: the huge range of our events and the way we all participate and contribute to the planning and networking, getting to know our promoters, producers and customers, in order to present the programme.

Working to provide a welcoming theatre for all, colleagues and customers alike – creating positive memories for our audiences by creating great experiences and delivering high standards of service.

Knowing I’m working in a place that means so much to so many people, a beautiful traditional theatre building with a unique history, which continues to constantly adapt and evolve to suit the needs of the local community and sits at the heart of Lowestoft Town and in the hearts of all who pass through her doors.
