Why join the ABTT

Individuals, Theatres and Companies should join the ABTT and benefit from the full range of support, information and training that we can provide. The greatest asset the ABTT has to offer is its independence and strength in membership; people who work in and care about a successful theatre industry. We are a big family – all working together to make our Industry work for us!

To ensure that the Association of British Theatre Technicians can continue to work to set standards in technical excellence, safety and compliance for theatre and live performance we require your support through membership and sharing your knowledge.  In return we will provide you with advice, discounts on training and guidance both for those working in the design of places of entertainment and for those engaged in their operation and the production of performance wherever it is presented.

Although anyone with an interest may become an associate (Young/ Early Career/ Retired or Associate) of the ABTT, the responsibility for the Association’s governance is borne by those who are deemed competent practitioners which we call Full Members.

To be a Full Member is to be at the heart of theatre design, technology, operation and production, by being at the heart of the only independent membership organisation setting and upholding standards in technical excellence, safety and compliance for theatre and live performance in the UK.

There is no difference in the membership cost between Associate Members and Full Member. However, to become a Full Member of the ABTT it is required for you to demonstrate to the Council of Trustee-Directors that you have relevant experience and a manifest commitment to the technical aspects of the art of theatre. Find out how you can do this here.
